Quantum Strings

The sarod contains a hidden resonant system. A single gesture can activate sympathetic strings and frequencies that were never directly played.
Through microtonal tuning, sustained drones, electronic processing and spatial placement, I use this behaviour to explore auditory beating, phantom tones and how attention shifts during prolonged listening. The work connects Indian acoustic knowledge with contemporary psychoacoustics and experimental composition.

Sub-Continental Migritude

My previous radio work includes Sub-Continental Migritude for Refuge Worldwide, a research-led broadcast using spoken context and genre-crossing musical curation to trace connections between South Asian bass cultures, migration, caste, colonial histories and diasporic identity. This experience informs how I will translate Noise Lullabies into an accessible radio work without simplifying its political or cultural context.
The programme takes ‘sub’ as its organising device: subcontinent, sub-bass and subculture. It moves between spiritual jazz, rap, dub, regional bass mutations and experimental electronics. The changes in genre are deliberate. The connecting thread is how musical forms travel across borders, languages and social histories.
The title is in dialogue with Shailja Patel’s Migritude, a hybrid work bringing together poetry, family history, political history and reportage around migration and Empire.
